Happy 2017 and thank yous for the past year
Posted: January 2, 2017Happy 2017, everyone, and we hope you had an enjoyable holiday season with family and friends. We are full of optimism about this year, with three gigs already booked in January and a high likelihood of returning to the studio to record album #4 later in 2017! We’ve been playing a number of new songs over the past year and are working on more as we speak, so we should have plenty of material for a new record. Stay tuned!
Looking back at 2016, it was, in many ways, a tough year with the loss of some of our rock ‘n roll heroes. We were fortunate to be a part of tribute shows to two of them at the Rickshaw Theatre, David Bowie and Prince; both gigs were amongst our favourites of the year and raised funds for worthy causes– Canadian Cancer Society and Keep a Child Alive for the Bowie show and Kids Up Front Foundation Vancouver for the Prince tribute. We were also pleased to play with so many outstanding local bands at these gigs; everyone brought their A-game and did justice to the incredible songs of both these artists who passed away way too young.
Thank you for coming to our 2016 gigs and a big thank you to all the people and venues who booked us: Blaine at the Fairview Pub, Lana at LanaLou’s, Rob at the Princeton Pub, Dave Bowes for the the David Bowie tribute, Mo at the Rickshaw Theatre, Noah of The Tower of Dudes, Dave Read and Bruce Emery in Nanaimo, Rob at Neptoon Records, David Bash of the International Pop Overthrow Festival, Carman of Shadooby Rats and Marc L’Esperance. Thanks also to the bands we played with and shared their equipment with us last year: Pill Squad, The New Black, Bubble11, The Tower of Dudes, Teenage Tiger, Orchard Pinkish and the Bird Frightening Hay Dolls, Two Apple Tobacco, The Sylvia Platters, Zafirios, 2 Days & Counting, Not Mentally Prepared, D. Trevlon, Jody Quine, Timing X, Big Top, Neon Stars, Wichita Trip, Ana Bon Bon, Paul Pigat’s Boxcar Campfire, Skillet Lickers, Black Gardenia, Kitty and the Rooster, Conscientious Objectors, Shadooby Rats, SLIP~Ons and the Stunt People… we know it’s not a complete list so our apologies if we missed you.
We really appreciated the press coverage we received in 2016, especially from Allan MacInnis in The Georgia Straight and on his blog Alienated in Vancouver, as well as Inside Vancouver and Nanaimo News Bulletin. Thank you so much for getting the word out about our gigs and our music.
Below are a couple of our favourite performances from the past year — our cover of Prince’s “Pop Life” is from the Prince tribute night at the Rickshaw Theatre, July 22/16 (featuring Kim Stewart on guest vocals) and “My Pal Dan” is from the Fairview Pub on September 1/16. Happy new year!
