Back at it + cover songs
Posted: May 21, 2012It’s been a while since we’ve posted, but we’re back at it! Mike and Kevin have been on vacation, while Vern was studying hard for his final exams at school as well as playing some gigs with the Getaway Sticks and Tim was jamming and gigging with 64 Funnycars.
We’re working on some new songs and while we enjoy the writing and jamming process of preparing our own material, sometimes you just can’t beat rocking out on some fun covers. In fact, China Syndrome’s very first gig was a Rolling Stones tribute show and, the music geeks that we are, we played a set of songs from perhaps one of their more obscure albums, Between the Buttons, from 1967. But we did end up adding one of their better known songs, “19th Nervous Breakdown,” for good measure after one of the scheduled bands didn’t show up. Anyways, for fun, here’s a random list of some of the covers we’ve performed over the past few years:
Another Girl, Another Planet – The Only Ones
Jimmie Jones – The Vapors
Shake Some Action – Flamin’ Groovies
Seeing (Skip’s Song) – Moby Grape
My Sharona – The Knack
I Melt With You – Modern English
Feel the Pain – Dinosaur Jr.
Radar Love – Golden Earring
High and Dry – Radiohead
Burning For You – Blue Oyster Cult
You Can’t Do That – Beatles
Ebony Eyes – Bob Welch
Moonage Daydream – David Bowie
Let’s Dance – David Bowie…
Boy, that’s not even half the covers we’ve played! And here’s one of our current favourites, Elvis Costello’s live version of the great Nick Lowe song, “(What’s So Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding.”
